  • Brief report of the event:

  • The Renal Dialysis Technology (RDT) unit of YSAHS, in collaboration with Yenepoya Institute of Nephro Urology, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), organized an outreach program on February 27, 2025, at Olavina Halli Rehabilitation and Community Development Center, Mangalore.
  • The program aimed to assess kidney health among the elderly residents.
  • Faculty members and students from the RDT unit, along with Sister-in-Charge Sis Aielin and Sis Gabriyela, participated in the event.
  • Blood and urine samples were collected for Renal Function Tests and Urinalysis to check for kidney-related issues.
  • A brief awareness session on kidney health was delivered by Mr. Hemnath P, providing residents with basic information on kidney care and preventive measures.
  • To engage the residents, students organized fun activities like games, dancing, and singing.
  • The screenings showed that many residents had abnormal renal function test results and urine abnormalities. These findings will be reported to the Medical Superintendent of Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Mangalore, for further care.
  • The World Kidney Day 2025 outreach program helped raise awareness about kidney health and provided essential screenings. By detecting potential issues early and offering guidance, the program aimed to improve the well-being of the elderly residents.

  • Outcome of the event:

  • The Olavina Halli Rehabilitation and Community Development Center benefited from the outreach program by receiving health screening reports on residents' kidney function, enabling early detection of potential issues. The findings will be shared with the Medical Superintendent of Yenepoya Medical College Hospital for further evaluation, while a report will also be given to the Olavina Halli Center to assist in follow-up care.
  • Additionally, a brief awareness session provided residents with essential information on kidney health and prevention, promoting better healthcare awareness within the center.
  • The recreational activities organized by the students, including games, dancing, and singing, also contributed to the residents' mental well-being, creating a joyful and engaging environment.
