The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Yenepoya School of Allied Health Sciences, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), organised a cleaning campaign at Mangaluru Central Railway Station on 30 September 2026 as part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign (17 September - 2 October 2026), observed under the theme "Swachhata Mein Sahbhag" and the vision of "Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat".
Twenty-five NSS student volunteers, accompanied by two NSS Programme Officers, took part in the drive. The programme began at 10:00 am with a Swachhata pledge taken by the volunteers together with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on the station platform. Wearing gloves and masks, the volunteers then cleaned the station premises, collecting litter, plastic waste and other discarded materials into garbage bags for proper disposal.
The campaign gave the volunteers hands-on experience of community service and helped spread the message of cleanliness and responsible waste disposal among railway commuters. The initiative is aligned with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
