Mar 3, 2026

The Department of Occupational Therapy successfully conducted an awareness program on "Promoting Mental Wellbeing Through Meaningful Leisure Participation" with the objective of educating patients and caregivers about the importance of engagement in purposeful activities during neurological recovery.

The program was organized under the leadership of Dr. Ananya Jana (OT), Assistant Professor cum Occupational Therapist as Organizing Chairperson, with support from organizing member Dr. Ansu (OT). The session was conducted by Resource Person Dr. Maimoona (OT), Assistant Professor cum Occupational Therapist and was graced by the presence of Guest of Honor Dr. Akshatha Bhat, Associate Professor, NABH Coordinator and Medical Superintendent of YAMCH. The active participation of patients, caregivers, interns, and supporting staff contributed to the overall success of the event.

The program emphasized that rehabilitation extends beyond physical improvement and includes emotional wellbeing, social participation, and restoration of meaningful life roles. Participants were educated about how leisure activities can positively influence mood, motivation, cognitive function, and overall quality of life.

As part of the session, patients actively participated in structured activities such as fruit cutting, sorting and packing, preparation of Iftar kits, and mindfulness-based yoga. These activities were designed to enhance fine motor skills, coordination, cognitive engagement, and emotional regulation while encouraging social interaction and caregiver involvement.
